Ray Douglas Bradbury (August 22, 1920 – June 5, 2012) was an American fantasy, science fiction, horror and mystery fiction writer.
Best known for his dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451 (1953) and for the science fiction and horror stories gathered together as The Martian Chronicles (1950) and The Illustrated Man (1951), Bradbury was one of the most celebrated 20th-century American writers.
Many of Bradbury's works have been adapted into comic books, television shows and films

غاي مونتاغ إطفائي. وظيفته حرق الكتب الممنوعة أصلاً، كون الحكّام يعتبرونها مصدر كل شرّ وفاجعة. مع هذا مونتاغ تعيس. يتأثّر بجارته كلاريس فيبدأ بسرقة الكتب المفترض به حرقها. عندما تكتشف جريمته، يؤمر بحرق منزله. بعد ذلك، يلجأ مونتاغ إلى الريف حيث يلتقي مجموعة من الهاربين، كل واحد منهم قد حفظ عن ظهر قلب عدداً من الكتب إلى حين يصبح المجتمع جاهزاً لإعادة اكتشافها.
أثارت هذه الرواية عند صدورها جدلاً واسعاً، من الإطراء إلى الذم. أما اليوم فثمّة إجماع عالمي على أنها من الإبداعات الأدبية الرائعة للقرن العشرين. حيث تحدثت النيويورك تايمز عن الرواية: " قصّة مرعبة... وكم هو آسرٌ ذلك الوصف الذي يقدّمه برادبوري لهذا العالم المجنون بما فيه من صورٍ مثيرةٍ للقلق لشدة تشابهها مع عالمنا نحن."
والجدير ذكره أن المؤلف راي برادبوري (1920-2012) هو من أعظم كتّاب الخيال العلمي والفانتازيا في العالم. حاز ميدالية "العطاء المتميّز" للأدب الأميركي لعام 2000 كما فاز بالتنويه الخاص لجائزة "بوليتزر" لعام 2007، بالإضافة إلى العديد من الجوائز التكريمية الأخرى.
