روائي تركي فاز بجائزة نوبل للأداب، لعام 2006.
من مواليد إسطنبول في 7 يونيو عام 1952 وهو ينتمي لأسرة تركية مثقفة.
درس العمارة والصحافة قبل أن يتجه الي الأدب والكتابة كما يعد أحد أهم الكتاب المعاصرين في تركيا وترجمت اعماله الي 34 لغة حتي الآن، ويقرأه الناس في أكثر من 100 دولة.
في فبراير 2003 صرح باموق لمجلة سويسرية بأن "مليون أرمني و30 ألف كردي قتلوا على هذه الأرض، لكن لا أحد غيري يجرؤ على قول ذلك".
تمت ملاحقته قضائيا أمام القضاء التركي بسبب "إهانة الهوية التركية"،ولشخصية شبه مقدسة عند الأتراك وهي شخصية (مصطفى كمال أتاتورك) وهما جريمتين يعاقب عليهما القانون بحسب الفقرة 301, وقد عفى من الملاحقة القضائية أخيرا في نهاية 2006.
اختير كعضو في لجنة تحكيم مهرجان كان السينمائي لعام 2007.

غرابة في عقلي الكاتب أورهان باموق
في العقود الأربعة ما بين 1969 و 2012، عمل «مولود» في عدد من الوظائف المتنوعة بشوارع إسطنبول؛ من بيع الزبادي والأرز المطهو إلى حراسة موقف سيارات. يراقب مولود الناس بمختلف أشكالهم وشخصياتهم وهم يمرون في الشوارع، ويشهد تدمير وإعادة بناء المدينة، ويرى المهاجرين من الأناضول وهم يصنعون الثروات. وفي الوقت ذاته يشهد كل لحظات التحول المهمة في تاريخ المدينة؛ من صراعات سياسية وانقلابات عسكرية تشكِّل البلد. يتساءل مولود دائمًا عما يميزہ عن الآخرين، عن مصدر الغرابة التي تعشش في عقله، ولكنه لا يتوقف عن بيع البوظة في ليالي الشتاء ويحاول أن يفهم من هي حبيبته.
ماذا يهم أكثر في الحب: ما نتمنى، أم ما يخبئه لنا القدر؟ هل تفرض علينا اختياراتنا السعادة، أم التعاسة، أم أن كل هذہ الأشياء تحددها قوى أكبر منا؟ تحاول رواية «غرابة في عقلي» الإجابة عن هذہ الأسئلة وهي ترسم التوتر بين حياة الحضر وحياة الأسرة، وغضب النساء وعجزهن داخل بيوتهن.
