جِلبرت كيث تشسترتون: وُلِدَ جلبرت كيث تشسترتون في لندن عامَ ١٨٧٤، وكانَ من بينِ اهتماماتِه الكثيرةِ النقدُ الأدَبي، والصَّحافة، والدراما، والخَطابة، والفَلْسفة. تميَّزَ تشتسرتون بأعمالِه الروائيَّةِ الرائِعة، وأَشْهرُها سلسلةٌ مِنَ القصصِ البوليسيةِ القصيرةِ بطَلُها واحدةٌ من الشخصياتِ الخالدةِ في أدبِ القرنِ العشرين؛ وهي شخصيةُ «الأب براون»؛ الكاهنِ الرومانيِّ الكاثوليكيِّ القصيرِ المستديرِ الوجه، والمحقِّقِ الهاوي، الذي يعتمدُ في حلِّ الألغازِ وكشْفِ غموضِ الجرائمِ والقضايا على حَدْسِه وفَهْمِه العميقِ للطبيعةِ البشريَّة، وقُدْرتِه على رؤيةِ الشرِّ في النفوس، وملاحظةِ التفاصيلِ الدقيقة. كما أنه يُمارِسُ دوْرَه بصفتِه قَسًّا بمساعدةِ المجرِمِينَ على الاعترافِ والتَّوْبة. وقد ظهَرَ «الأب براون» في أكثر من ٥٠ قصةً قصيرةً نُشِرتْ في الفترةِ بينَ ١٩١٠ و١٩٣٦.
