يستعرض، خلال بحثه التاريخي، أدوار المفكرين الدينيين، وعلماء الاجتماع، والأنتربولوجيا، واللغة، والفلاسفة، واللاهوتيين، الذين أسهموا في دراسة الظاهرة الدينية، ووضعوا مناهج البحث لعلم الأديان.
