مجموعه حكایتهای پندآمیز و داستانهای آموزندهای است درباره ارزش و اجر والای صبر بر بیماری و شكر خدای تعالی در هنگام ناخوشی و مشكلات جسمی. نویسنده كه خود سالها در كشورهای غربی اقامت داشته، در این اثر میكوشد تا با مقایسه شیوههای درمانی غربیان برای بیماری لاعلاج –به ویژه مرگ ترحمی– آن را با دستورهای اسلام و توصیه های رسول اكرم صلی الله علیه وسلم مقایسه نماید و خواننده را به صبر و شكر در هنگام بیماری فرا خواند . وی با استفاده از داستانهای قرآنی، احادیث نبوی و حكایتهای تاریخی، موارد متعددی از بیماریهای سخت و دردناك را بر میشمارد و توضیح می دهد كه بیماران به خاطر تحمل رنج و شُكر بر مصیبت، چه اجر و ثوابی را نصیب خود نمودند و از این راه ضمن اثبات اشتباه بودن شیوه غربیان در نادیده انگاشتن معجزات الهی، خواننده را به شكر و شكیبایی در هنگام سختی فرا میخواند.
