نادين غورديمر، هي روائية وناشطة حقوقية وكاتبة مناهضة لنظام الفصل العنصري في جنوب أفريقيا، ما يربو على 30 كتابا، كان من بينها روايات "ابنة بيرغر" و"شعب يوليو" و"قصة ابني".
وفازت غورديمر بجائزة "بوكر" الأدبية عام 1974 عن روايتها "الناشطة البيئية"، كما حصلت على جائزة نوبل في الأدب عام 1991.
"فائدة عظيمة" وقالت لجنة تحكيم جائزة نوبل في بيان منحها الجائزة لغورديمر بأنها منحت لكتاباتها الملحمية الفخمة التي كانت "ذات فائدة كبيرة للبشرية".
بدأت غورديمر الكتابة مبكرا وكانت أول رواية قدمتها وهي في الخامسة عشرة من عمرها رواية "تعال غدا ثانية"، ونشرت في مجلة بجوهانسبرغ.
وتنوعت أعمالها ما بين روايات وقصص قصيرة كانت موضوعاتها الرئيسية تتناول تبعات الفصل العنصري والمنفى والاغتراب.
وقالت عائلة غورديمر إنها كانت "تهتم بشكل عميق بجنوب أفريقيا وثقافتها وشعبها، ونضالها المتواصل من أجل الاعتراف بديمقراطيتها الجديدة".
كما كانت الكاتبة الجنوب أفريقية، التي كرست جهودها لمجابهة نظام الفصل العنصري، عضوا قياديا بارزا في المؤتمر الوطني الأفريقي، وحاربت من أجل إطلاق سراح الزعيم الجنوب أفريقي نيلسون مانديلا، ليصبحا بعد ذلك صديقين حميمين.
وقد منعت الحكومة في جنوب أفريقيا عددا من كتب غورديمر في فترة الحكم العنصري في البلاد.
وجاءت آخر رواياتها "لا وقت كالوقت الحاضر" والتي نشرت عام 2012، عن مناضلين مخضرمين في مقاومة نظام الفصل العنصري يتعاملون مع القضايا التي تواجه المجتمع الحديث في جنوب أفريقيا.

لمّا تعطّلت سيارة جولي سامرز على طريق مقطوع ورديء في إحدى مدن جنوب أفريقيا، أتى شابٌ ميكانيكي من أصول عربية يدعى عبدو لمساعدتها، فنشأ بينهما إعجابٌ غذّته دوافع مختلفة، فقد كانت جولي تثور على بيئتها الثرية وعلى والدها، أما عبدو، المهاجر غير الشرعي، فحاول يائساً أن يتجنّب ترحيله إلى بلده الفقير والمعدم.
وفي أثناء علاقته بجولي ظهرت عواقب لم تكن متوقعة، إذ قلبت المشاعرُ الغامرة رؤيةً كل واحد منهما نحو الآخر.
تدور أحداث الرواية في جنوب أفريقيا الجديدة، وفي قرية عربية في الصحراء، ولذلك تُعَدُّ رواية صديق عابر "عملاً فذاً تكتنفه مشاعر خلاقة... وقصةً شائقة من الألم المعاصر والرغبة غير المتوقعة، كما أنها تفتح آفاقنا نحو تصورٍ جديد ومختلف للعالم العربي بصورة لم يسبق لها مثيل"، كما عَبَّرَ إدوارد سعيد.
