على طية الغلاف نقرأ: "أنا قصيدة" محبوسة تتلمس كالأعمى طريقها سعيًا وراء الذات والعالم المحيط، دون وصول أكيد إلى تلك الأنت الخفية. يمكن لهذا بالطبع أن يفزع القارئ أو يجذبه، تبعًا لرؤيته.
يمكن لإشكال هوية كهذا أن يوضع في أنظمة معقدة أو يفجر في شظايا لغوية صغيرة، لكن بوبيرغ تسلك طريقًا أخرى. فهي تشكل بصبر شعرًا كتيم العناية بالتفاصيل ذا طاقة تفجر مكبوتة تتكتف المرة تلو المرة في صياغات قوية، تغلب عليها المفارقة- نجد مثلًا في إحدى الصفحات الأولى هذه العبارة المهمة في خطوتين: "ما من أنت ليست أنا. هناك أخذلك."
الأنا في الأنت والأنت في الأنا والخذلان واحتقار الذات تشكل لفيفًا من الثيمات عبر المجموعة. يقبع تقريع الذات والعار والذنب بالطبع في نسيج هذا كله في هيئات عدة: في العلاقة بين العاشقين وبين الأم والطفلة وبين الحياة والكتابة.
"صدود" مثال يحتذى به على المجموعة الشعرية التي يجب على المرء أن يقرأ "الأنا" فيها على أنها أنا الشعر، لا أنا الشاعر. الأنا هنا بناء فكري، يستمد بالطبع زخمه العاطفي من أنا الشاعرة. لكنها، فيما يتعلق بهذه الإزدواجيات كلها وتقريع الذات هذا كله، تمثل كيانًا مستقلًا. تصير الأنا الأداة المتشبعة لصياغات تتألف من أسئلة وجودية وعامة ناهيك عن العمق في بعدها السيكولوجي بأسلوب جلي ومعقد في آن.
