لقد ظهرت في مصر في تاريخها الحديث والمعاصر جماعات وصولية (ليست بدينية – لأن الدين وقيمه تكون للبناء والإعداد والتربية والتنشئة وليس الوصول للحكم أولا) لا تستخدم سوى الدين وسيلة للوصول إلى اهدافها مستغلة انعدام الوعي الديني والسلبية في قطاع عريض من المجتمع المصري.
قصة الدين واسعة، فقد أخذت إنجلترا تعمل على التفرقة بين المسلمين والمسيحيين في مصر وإشعال نار الفتنة فيما بينهم، فقام القمص سرجيوس، باعتلاء منبر الأزهر الشريف وسجل التاريخ خطبة القمص سرجيوس بأحرف من نور، وخاصة قوله "إذا كان الإنجليز يتمسكون بوجودهم في مصر بحجة حماية الأقباط، فليمت الأقباط ويحيا المسلمون أحرارا ولو احتاج الاستقلال إلى مليون قبطي فلا بأس من التضحية".
هذا الأمر نفسه استخدمته فرنسا في سوريا وأدعت أنها جاءت إلى سورية لحماية …مسيحيي الشرق، فما كان من فارس الخوري إلا أن قصد الجامع الأموي في يوم جمعة وصعد إلى منبره وقال: إذا كانت فرنسا تدعي أنها احتلت سورية لحمايتنا نحن المسيحيين من المسلمين، فأنا كمسيحي من هذا المنبر أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله.
