سورة الشمس سورة مكية ، من سور المفصل ، نزلت بعد سورة القدر وقبل سورة البروج ، عدد اياتها 15 اية وعدد كلماتها 54 كلمة ، ابتدأت بأنواع القسم المتتالية التي تلفت الى ايات الله الكونية المتقابلة ، وسميت بسورة الشمس لانها ابتدأت ب "الشمس " ، وهي نجم عملاق ، وتعتبر من أحد الدلائل على قدرة الله سبحانه وتعالى .
