هذه القصة في مجملها قصة فلسفية رمزية اختتمها الجامى بحل رموزها؛ فقال: "لما خلق الصانع الواحد هذا العالم بدأ بالعقل الأول ونمت العقول عشرة, وعاشرها مؤثر في العالم وهو لهذا يسمى العقل الفعال, وهو في العالم مفيض الخير والشر وكفيل بالنفع والضر وروح الإنسان وليدة تأثيره ونفسه أسيرة تدبيره.. وهو الملك الآمر المؤمر, وسواه مأمور مسخر وهو المقصود بالملك في هذه القصة".
"أما الحكيم فهو الفيض الذي ينزل منه على العالم, وروحه الطاهرة تسمى النفس الناطقة وهي وليدة هذا العقل دون صلة جسمانية, ومفارقة هذه الصلة الجسمانية هي التي كنى عنها بالولادة من غير أب وهذا الوليد الظاهر سمى سلامان".
"وأما أبسال فهو هذا الجسم أسير الشهوة, والخاضع لأحكام الطبيعة؛ فالجسم حي بالروح, والروح بالجسم تدرك المحسوسات, فكلاهما- من هذا- عاشق صاحبه.
