الأبدال هم طائفةٌ من أولياء هذه الأمّة المباركة المحمديّة، ورد ذكرهم في عدة أحاديث نبوية ثابتة، ومن أمارات صحة تلك الأحاديث وثبوتها عن مشكاة النبوة أنّ رجال الصدر الأول من السلف رضوان الله عليهم شاع في كلامهم ذكر الأبدال، ووصفوا رجالاً بأعيانهم أنهم من الأبدال، وصرّحوا بذكر أشياء من علامات الأبدال وأحوالهم. وبين يديك أيها القارئ الكريم معجم ماتع، جمع فيه مؤلفُه تراجم من وُصفوا بأنهم من الأبدال، بعد أن تتبع كتب التراجم والسير والطبقات والتواريخ المختلفة، موثقاً مصادر تراجمه، مرتباً للأعلام على حروف المعجَم، ذاكراً في كل ترجمةٍ الألقاب المعرِّفة بالمترجَم ومكانته، وطرفاً من أحواله الربانية، ويذكر مَن نصّ على كونه من الأبدال. مصدِّراً معجمه بتخريج وافٍ للأحاديث الواردة في الأبدال، وبعض المباحث المهمة المتعلقة بهم. فأنت في هذا المعجم تطالع سِيَرَ أقوام هم صفوة هذه الأمّة وخلاصة أوليائها، وتشاهد من أحوالهم وأوصافهم ما يوقظ الهمّة للتشبه بهم والائتساء بأخلاقهم.
