أن نعيش حياة واحدة، فهذا ما نتفق جميعنا عليه، أما أن نعيش حياتين. سابقة ولاحقة؛ هو ما تقوله رواية "سَرمَدة" للروائي السوري "فادي عزام".
ما بين إثبات عقيدة التقمص أو نفيها تدور رحى الرواية، في محاولة من الكاتب لتفعيل هذا الطرح وتأكيد أبعاده الانعكاسية على مستوى الواقع، وعلى مستوى العقيدة.
تبدأ أحداث الرواية في باريس عندما يلتقي "رافي عزمي" ابن مدينة سرمدة، خلال رحلة عمل بسيدة تدعى "عزة توفيق" بروفسورة في مكانيك الكم. تُدرس في جامعة السوربون وموضوع الدكتوراه الخاص بها يعتمد على تطوير نظرية الفوضى في الفيزياء (الشاوش).
فتخبره أنها عاشت سابقاً – في حياتها الأولى – في سرمدة، وقتلت على يد أشقائها "... أنا متُ قتلاً، الساعة الرابعة والنصف مساء يوم الثلاثاء الأول من شهر كانون أول عام 1968. اسمي في حياتي السابقة هيلا منصور، وبعدني بتذكر الكثير من حياتي الماضية و – إذا بدك – الكثير من تفاصيل آخر ساعتين ونصف من عمري أراها بكل وضوح وكأن الأمر حدث البارحة..."...
هي حياة تعيشها بطلة الرواية وتدركها وتتآلف معها، ولكن ظل في داخلها شوق إلى معرفة ذلك المكان الذي ولدت فيه سابقاً – فتطلب من "رافي عزمي" التقصي عما آلت إليه الأمور بعد موتها، فبدأ رافي بالبحث والتقصي بين الخرائب والأماكن، يتقصى عن الحكاية يدون ويقارن صوت هذه السيدة، فيرى أصداء كلماتها "على المكان ووجوه الرجال والنساء ممن بقوا أحياء بعد كل هذه السنوات، أستفز ذاكرتهم، وأروي الحكاية من البداية...".
"سرمدة" رواية تتأرجح بين الواقع والماوراء، بين الحقيقة والرمز، بين الإنساني والإلهي، تغوص في إشكالية لا جواب عليها – انتقال الروح – وما ينطوي عليه هذا الطرح الجريء، أمر جعل من هذا العمل حكاية لا تنسى.
