وبحس أديب مرهف تكاملت في موهبته عناصر الإبداع وقع اختيار المازني على رواية «سانين» ليترجمها، وهي رواية رائعة لروائي روسي هو «أرتزيباشيف» روائي صاحب مكانة أدبية متميزة، إلا أنه لم يحظ بنفس القدر من الشهرة الذي حظي به غيره من الأدباء الروس العظام أمثال: تولستوي، وديستوفيسكي، ويستوحي أرتزيباشيف في «سانين» فلسفة «ماكس ستيرنر» القائمة على «الفوضوية الفردية» التي تقاوم النزعة المحافظة داخل المجتمعات، فبطل الرواية هو ذلك الرجل الذي يجسد المرآة الصافية للطبيعة، حيث تنسجم تصرفاته مع محيطها الطبيعي متحررة من محيطها الاجتماعي المحكوم بالتقاليد والأعراف الصارمة.
