ميخائيل أرتزيباشيف: (١٨٧٨م–١٩٢٧م) روائي وكاتب مسرحي روسي كبير، من أنصار المدرسة «الطبيعية» في الأدب. كتب أول أعماله الهامة — قصة «باشا تومانوف» — في عام ١٩٠١، ولكنها مُنعت من النشر حتى عام ١٩٠٥. كان يعتبر روايته «موت إيفان لاند» أفضل أعماله، غير أن أكبر نجاحاته تمثل بالفعل في رواية «سانين» التي كتبها عام ١٩٠٣م، ولم تنشر إلا في عام ١٩٠٧م بسبب الرقابة. وقد صدمت الرواية قراءه الروس عند نشرها، كما مُنعت في العديد من الدول، وذلك لاستنادها إلى رؤية تحررية تقاوم النزعة المحافظة التي اتسم بها بعض المجتمعات آنذاك. اشتُهر بكونه عدوًّا لدودًا للنظام البلشفي، ومات في وارسو في الثالث من مارس عام ١٩٢٧م.

عرفنا المازني شاعرًا كبيرًا في دواوينه، وأديبًا متميزًا في رواياته وقصصه، وناقدًا بارعًا في مقالاته الأدبية والنقدية والاجتماعية، وها هو يطل علينا من نافذة جديدة، إنها نافذة الترجمة، التي أثبت من خلالها إمساكه بتلابيب النص، وتمكنه من اللغة، وولوجه إلى المعنى بشكل بارع، قلَّ أن نجد له مثيلًا عند غيره، فقد تمكَّن المازني من بناء ذلك الجسر الرابط بين اللغة والفكر والوجدان، وهو الجسر الذي طالما ينشده المترجمون ويسعون إليه، لقد أثبت أنه قدير بهذه الصنعة رغم عدم امتهانه لها.
وبحسِّ أديبٍ مرهفٍ تكاملت في موهبته عناصر الإبداع وقع اختيار المازني على رواية «سانين» ليترجمها، وهي رواية رائعة لروائي روسي هو «أرتزيباشيف».
«أرتزيباشيف» روائي صاحب مكانة أدبية متميزة، إلا أنه لم يحظ بنفس القدر من الشهرة الذي حظي به غيره من الأدباء الروس العظام أمثال: تولستوي، وديستوفيسكي، ويستوحي أرتزيباشيف في «سانين» فلسفة «ماكس ستيرنر» القائمة على «الفوضوية الفردية» التي تقاوم النزعة المحافظة داخل المجتمعات، فبطل الرواية هو ذلك الرجل الذي يجسد المرآة الصافية للطبيعة، حيث تنسجم تصرفاته مع محيطها الطبيعي متحرَّرةً من محيطها الاجتماعي المحكوم بالتقاليد والأعراف الصارمة.
