كانتْ حياتي لا تنتمي إلى هذا الكون، وسِيرتي لا تُشبِه أيّةَ سيرة. وأبي يُنكِره الأقربون قبل الأبعَدِين. وجدّتي لا يُدرك أحدٌ ما هَمَستْ لي به في الصّبا فشّكل كلّ خواطري وعَزائمي. وزوجتي لم يرها في حياتي سِواي؛ كانتْ أحدَ أحلامي الموؤودة، وسِرًّا من أسراري الّتي لا تنتهي. وخولةُ كانتْ هِيَ الأخرى حُلُمًا منذورًا للموت، وقد نَهَشَها فيما نهَشَ من أحلامي قبلها، وما سينهشه بعدَها. وأخي كان أعمى. وأختي لم يكنْ يعرفُ رغائبها أحدٌ إذا خلتْ بنفسِها في اللّيالي المُوحِشات، ولا يدري كيفَ تنظرُ إلى أخيها الّذي ملأ الدُّنيا.
وابني كان حارِسي من الموت الّذي كان يضحك مِنّي ومنه. ورُواتي لم يكونوا بشرًا، كان يروي عنّي الحجر والرّمل والصّخر والشّجر في الأرض، وكانتْ تروي عنّي الملائكة والنّجوم والكواكب والأفلاك في السّماء، وكان يروي عنّي الجِنّ والطُّيوف فيما بينهما، فأنّى لي أنْ أموتَ بعدَ هذا كلّه؟!!
