كان كمال جنبلاط متميزاً بين سياسي مرحلته في نهجه الجامع بين الثقافة والسياسة، الهاجس بإثراء روح الفعل في أمة تغربها الأساطير وتستلبها الخرافات، ولأنه الداعي إلى إحلال روح الدين الخلقي وفي جسد دنيوي يفور كالقدر الموضوع على نار الغرائز والرغائب. كان كمال جنبلاط ظاهرة خارجة عن المألوف في عالمنا السياسي والثقافي المتردي. كان، وهو سيد القصر، سيد نفسه أولاً.
كان وهو الزعيم المتحدر من نبالة أرستقراطية، فارساً تقدمياً يسابق العصر ليطل على الزمن الآتي من كشوفات العلم الأخيرة والتجارب السياسية وهذا الكتاب يستحضر نظرته إلى الثورة التي أرادها شاملة، تعصف رياحها داخل الذات الإنسانية، في الوقت الذي تزلزل فيه ما يلي من نظم ومؤسسات ذلك أن الثورة في رؤياه، لا تقتصر على استبدال أفراد أو نظم، وإنما تدفن الإنسان التقليدي الغرائزي القديم، لتبعث الإنسان الاشتراكي الجديد، وتنتقل العلاقة البشرية من مستوى الأنانية الفردية السائدة، إلى مرتبة الأخوة الإنسانية الجامعة.
قدم كمال جنبلاط من خلال كتاب هذا لمحة عن تاريخية النضال وذلك بتسليط الضوء على تاريخ الحزب ذاكراً بعض الملامح الأساسية لتوجهات نضال الحزب على الصعيد السياسي والاجتماعي الداخلي الطويل، ومن ثم على الصعيد الخارجي-القومي العربي والدولي، مختتماً كل ذلك بمحاولة تسجم هذا النضال ككل عبر نظرة جامعة وتطلع لوحدة التطور ولوحدة الوجود، وما يعترض هذا الجيل وهذا العصر من مسالك الرفض والتي فيها الهدم الذي يستبق البنيان، لعل في كل ذلك عظة واسترشاداً.
