هذا الكتاب مجموع قرارات تقترب من المادة والروح والفلسفة والمعرفة لدى المعلم والفيلسوف "كمال جنبلاط" نلامس ما بين صفحاته كيف يكون التغيير بالمعرفة والحكمة والفكر، وأما السياسة الخلاقة فهي لا تنفصل عن الأخلاق عند فيلسوفنا، وهذا إن دل على شيء فإنما يدل على شمولية النظر والعمل التي من شأنها أن تعبد الطريق مع الواقع بحيثياته المادية وغير المادية نسجها هذا المفكرمن على علوٍ انكشف الكون له فيه من طبيعة واحدة فتهافتت في يقينه كل تلك الإعتبارات والأفكار التي طالما اختلف الناس في تفسيرها. أما كمال جنبلاط فيقرأ الحياة في بساطتها وسعادتها ومعرفة عظمتها، أليس هو القائل: "... الحياة شعلة مضيئة، أمسكت عليها بيدي، وعليَ واجب أن أجعلها أكثر ما تكون نوراً وتألقاً، قبل أن أسلمها للأجيال القادمة؟".
جاء الكتاب في فصلين: الفصل الأول يتحدث عن "المادة والروح" ويناقش فيه المعلم جنبلاط الفلاسفة والمفكرين وما جاء به العلم الحديث وحتى رجال الدين حول اسبقية المادة للروح لأو للحياة في مجرى التكوين، فهل الروح تزول بزوال الكائن؟ وهل مفهوم الألوهة يتجاوز وجود المادة ويعلو عليها؟... أما الفصل الثاني فيبحث في "الفلسفة والدين والمعرفة" ويتضمن عشرون مبحثاً حول علاقة الفلسفة بالدين ويناقش فيها المعلم جنبلاط تيارات فكرية غربية وشرقية، إضافة إلى فلاسفة مثل "هيفل" و"ماركس" وغيرهم كثير ويعطي رأيه في مفهوم السلام الناجم عن التوافق بين مشيئة الأفراد وإرادة الجماعات في فترة معينة ويصفه بانه حالة وعي إجتماعي... أما في العلم والمعرفة فيقول المعلم: العلم يتوجه إلى الفكر، أما المعرفة فتشمل الروح والعقل والقلب والمسلك والباصرة والبصيرة...
وأخيراً يعتبر أن الحقيقة الأخيرة للوجود كائنة في العرفان، وفي العلم التجريدي... وأن الفلسفة هي تفسير لواقع الحياة، لواقع الإنسان، ولواقع الوجود...
