يستعرض الكتاب الذي بين يديك أخي القارئ الكريم نضال الشعب السوداني خلال نصف قرن من الزمن للحصول على استقلاله ووحدته، والتخلص من نير الاستعمار الذي أرخى ظلاله السوداء القاتمة على أرجاء البلاد، وأذاق أهلها مرارة الجور والظلم، ناسياً أو متناسياً أن الأرض التي استعمرها ليست أرضه وأن أهلها ليسوا عبيداً له. فهب أنباء البلاد يحدوهم حبُّ بلادهم الذي خلق معهم يوم خلقوا، وملأ جوانحهم منذ الصبا فاستجابوا لنداء الوطن مقدمين الأرواح فداء لكل ذرة تراب منه. وبدأ الصراع عنيفاً لا هوادة فيه: صراع بين الحق والباطل.. بين العدل والجور، بين رجال حرصوا أن يقدموا أرواحهم فداءً، ومستعمرين خلت عقولهم من معاني العدالة، وأفئدتهم من الرحمة، وبقي الصراع لا يهدأ ولا ينطفئ أواره حتى انتصر الحق، وزهق الباطل. قدم الشباب السوداني الأرواح رخيصة ليحيا الوطن ويبقى العلم السوداني مرفرفاً: "بلاد مات فتيتها لتحيا، وزالوا دون قومهم ليبقوا"، واستعمل الأعداء كل أنواع السلاح، وحمل أبناء البلاد عنفوانهم سيوفاً وحب الوطن سلاحاً، وصدورهم دروعاً غير آبهين من الموت، مؤمنين أن النصر للحق وأصحابه. ودامت الحرب ما ينوف عن نصف قرن لينجلي الموقف عن اندحار المستعمر لا يحمل معه إلا الهوان، وعز الجانب الوطني، وبقي العلم يرفرف في سماء البلاد الأبية التي قدّم أبطالها نفوسهم رخيصة فداءها.
