تنفستْ دمشقُ "الصُّعداءَ" بعد عَقدٍ من الزمنِ مرَّت "الحربُ في زمن الحب"على الشاعرِ و مدينتِه ، وقد تضمَّخَتْ نفسُ شاعرِنا في أتونِ هذه الحربِ بالشِّعرِ وأوجاعِه فانبجستْ عنها عشرةُ دواوينَ كاملة
فتخيَّرَ من القصائدِ أجملَها ووضعها في هذه الورقات
فكانت ولادةُ هذا الديوان
كلماتٌ تسيلُ رِقّةً وعذوبةً تشمُّ منها شذى الياسمين، وتتمايل على أنغامِ الزنبقِ و عزفِ الحَبَقِ والرياحين، تطيرُ في الحبِّ الدِّمشقي، وتغورُ في شكوى الغرامِ فتتعانقُ في الغزلِ والحنين، حولَ بحرةٍ دمشقيَّةٍ يُصفِّقُ فوقها العُصفور، ويُغرِّدُ تحتها الجدول، يُعرّشُ ههنا اللبلاب ويرقدُ ثمّةَ المنهل، وكان الياسمينُ هنا بُعيدَ بُزوغِه يذبُل، وكان الماءُ لا يروي ، وكان البدرُ لا يكمُل، أما القذائف حولها كالغيث لمَّا ينهمر، من وحي الحربِ والحب، وتحت تأثيرِ الألمِ والأمل ، وبين رصاصِ الفكرةِ والبندقية ،
في هذه الصورة وعلى هذا الحال كانت ولادةُ هذهِ القصائدِ وأخواتُها...
