ظل ديوان أوس بن حجر، بشرح ابن السكيت متداولاً في أيدي العلماء حتى القرن الثاني عشر، وأوائل القرن الثالث عشر، إذ لديه إشارات في شرح شواهد المغني للسيوطي ( - 911)، وفي كشف الظنون لحاجي خليفة ( - 1068) وفي خزانة الأدب وشرح شواهد الشافية للبغدادي (- 1093)، ويشير إليه صاحب التاج في الجزء الثامن ص 238.
وكان المستشرق رودلف جابر قد أخرج طبعة له في فينة سنة 1892 تناولها المستشرقان بارت وفشر بالنقد الشديد في مجلة المستشرقين الألمان ZDMG، وقد أفاد المؤلف من هذه الطبعة وزاد عليها زيادات كثيرة عثر عليها في المصادر التي طبعت بعد صدور طبعة جابر، وفي مخطوطات منتهى الطلب والتعازي والمراثي والحماسة البصريّة والتذكرة الصفديّة.
