معن بن أوس المُزَنيّ، شاعر مجيد، من مخضرمي الجاهلية والإسلام، وهو رضيع عبد الله بن الزبير، وكان مصاحباً له، له مدائح في جماعة من الصحابة، منهم سعيد بن العاصي، وعاصم بن عمر بن الخطاب، وعبيد الله بن العباس بن عبد المطلب، توفي سنة (64هـ).
في هذا الكتاب يقدم إلينا أ. د. حاتم صالح الضامن "ديوان معن بن أوس المُزنيّ" في طبعة جديدة منقحة هي حصيلة خمسة وثلاثين سنة من المتابعة لما يصدر من كتب فيها أشعار لمعن المُزنيّ، بلغت أكثر من ستين كتاباً اعتمد عليها في هذه الطبعة، وأضاف إليها شرح الألفاظ للأشعار وتخريجها مع ذكر للمصادر، فجاء الديوان في ثلاثة أقسام هي: القسم الأول: يشمل يشعر معن المُزَنيّ برواية أبي علي القاليّ كما جاء في طبعة "لا يبزك" وأضاف إليها المؤلف أبياتاً، وشرح قسم من الألفاظ وإختلاف الرواية، وخرّج الشواهد التي استشهد بها القالي في شرحه.
كما خرّج أبيات كل قصيدة من المصادر الأخرى، وقد بلغ عدد أبيات الديوان (طبعة لا يبزك) 257 بيتاً، وأضاف إليها المؤلف سبعة أبيات، أما القسم الثاني فيشتمل شعر معن في غير الديوان، حيث رجع المؤلف إلى المصادر القديمة ومجاميع الشعر وجمع منها القصائد والمقطعات والأبيات، ورتبها على وفق حروف الهجاء، وتَسَّقْ مفردات كل قافية وفق حركاتها: الضمّ فالفتح فالكسر فالسكون، وأخرَّ الموصول منها بهاء عن المجرد، مع تقديم الموصول بها، المذكر، وشرح قسماً من المفردات التي تحتاج إلى شرح.
وقد بلغ عدد أبيات هذا القسم (95) بيتاً، ويأتي القسم الثالث والأخير، ليشمل ما نُسب إلى معن المزنيّ وإلى غيره من الشعراء، وعدد أبيات هذا القسم سبعة أبيات، وهي أبيات نسبها المؤلف إلى معن، لأن مصادر أخرى نسبتها للشاعر.
