لقد قامت شركة Microsoft بتطوير كل من ASP وVisual Studio 6 التقليدية لتصل إلى أفكار ومعايرة جديدة أسمتها ASP .NET فلم يعد من الضروري بعد اليوم أن نفرض على مطوري وب تعلم لغة جديدة تدعى ASP فالآن يمكن لأي مبرمج لأي لغة تنتمي إلى حزمة لغات.NET، أن يطور صفحات الإنترنت باستخدام اللغة المفضلة#C أو Visual Basic.NET في برمجة صفحات الإنترنت. وأيضاً لقد انتهى عصر حشر الشفرات النصية ومداخلتها مع شيفرات النص التشعبي HTML لإنتاج صفحة إنترنت ذات طبيعة ديناميكية فاليوم باستخدام ASP .NET أصبح للمبرمجين القدرة على الفصل التام بين تصميم الصفحة بلغة HTML وبين التعليمات البرمجية التي تصف كيفية تفاعل الصفحة مع المستخدمين.
ويهدف هذا الكتاب إلى تغطية مبادئ عمل ASP .NET باستخدام لغة البرمجة Visual Basic.NET ويتدرج في فصوله عبر مبادئ معالجة البيانات ومعالجة الملفات ويقوم بالتعريج في النهاية على العمليات الأكثر طلباً في عالم الإنترنت كإرسال بريد الكتروني وتطوير صفحات الإنترنت الخاصة بالأجهزة المحمولة (Mobile Devices) وكل ذلك مصحوباً بالأمثلة التوضيحية والتطبيق العملي للأفكار النظرية المطروحة.
