إنّ المهتمّ بالثعالبيّ ومصنّفاته سيتوقّف مليًّا عند علمينِ ارتبطا به في الحقل الأكاديميّ وهما: رمزي بعلبكي وبلال أرفه لي. فقد سبق وحققا سابقاً كتابين للثعالبيّ: كتاب "زاد سفر الملوك: في السفر ومدحه وذمّه ومحاسن الأخلاق فيه" وكتاب "مكارم الأخلاق ومحاسن الآداب وبدائع الأوصاف وغرائب التشبيهات"، فضلًا عن دراسات عديدة للدكتور الأرفه لي حول الثعالبي،وحياته وكتبه.
ينشر الباحثان ولأوّل مرة كتاب "خاصّ الخاصّ في الأمثال" للثعالبي بعد تحقيقه عن مخطوطةٍ فريدة في مجموعة آيا صوفيا.
يقع الكتاب في ثلاثة أقسامٍ مبوّبة: القسم الأوّل فيما يُتمثّل به من ألفاظ القرآن وما جاء في معانيها من الخبر وأمثال العرب والعجم وما يقاربها من ألفاظ الخاصّة والعامّة. والقسم الثاني فيه أمثال طبقات الناس وذوي المراتب المتباينة والصناعات المختلفة. ويعتمد التدرّج الطبقيّ بدءًا بالأمثال السلطانيّة والملوكيّة، انتقالًا إلى الأمثال المعنيّة بالوزراء والكتّاب والبلغاء، وانتهاءً بأمثال النساء فالصبيان فالعبيد.
أمّا في القسم الثالث فيجمع الثعالبي مختارات من الأمثال لم يتضمّنها كتاب أبي عبدالله حمزة بن الحسن الأصبهانيّ
