الالتزام كلمة عامة تصدق على الالتزام بالشرع والالتزام بغيره. ولأجل ذلك فإن الفقهاء يعبرون بكلمة الملنزم عن الذي يؤخذ عليه عهد أنه إما أن يعمل بأحكام الشريعة وإما أن يلزم هبا. فيدخل في ذلك الذميون الذين يلتزم معهم أن تطبق عليهم تعاليم الشريعة.
لقد اصطلح في هذا الزمان أن تطلق كلمة ملتزم على المستقيم
على الشرع والمتمسك بالدين.
ولكن الأولى أن نسـمي المتـدين: (بالمسـتقيم)، ونسـميه
(المتمسك بالشريعة)، ونسميه: (المطيـع الله)، ونسـميه: (عـاملاً
بالشريعة ومتبعًا لرسول االله صلى الله عليه وسلم) وهذا هو الأولى والأرجح.
