لن يجد قارئ هذا الكتاب كثيراً في العناء ليكتشف ما يرمي إليه "غروبارد"، لقد لخص المؤلف هدفه كاملاً في عنوان الكتاب فسماه "حرب السيد بوش مغامرات في سياسات الوهم"، ولكن هل كانت هذه الحرب هي حقاً حرب السيد بوش؟ وهل كانت هذه الحرب من بدايتها حتى نهايتها قصة إخراجها للتلفزيون؟ يُجهد المؤلف نفسه في إسقاط كل ما يجري ويحمله لبوش شخصياً، محاولاً إقناع قرائه بأن بوش تصرف بشكل رئيسي بدافع الحرص على مستقبله السياسي وحزبه الجمهوري، ويقارن غروبارد بين هذه الحرب، حرب الخليج وغزو غرينادا أيام ريغان، وغزو بنما أيام بوش نفسه... وهنا يطرح التساؤل فيما إذا كانت هذه المقارنة موضوعية...؟ عندما يُحشد نصف مليون جندي أمريكي في الصحراء العربية... وعندما تحشد الآلة البحرية في مياه العرب، وعندما يحذر وزير الخارجية الإسرائيلي بمهاجمة العراق إذا لم تقم أمريكا بإخراجه من الكويت وتدمير قوته العسكرية.
عند ذلك كله يتضح مدى مجانبة المؤلف للصواب في طرح "قضيته" على النحو الوارد في كتابه. في رأينا إن الكتاب ذو وجهين، أحدهما للمواطن الأميركي في محاولة واضحة... تسبق الانتخابات الأميركية، والآخر للعرب الذين يفترض فيهم ضعف الذاكرة... ليعتقدوا أن أمريكيين الغرب غير متورطين في إجهاض أية مشاريع نهضوية لهذه الأمة... وليبقى الساذجون حائرين في هذه الحرب، هل هي حرب الخليج... أم حرب تحرير الكويت... أم حرب السيد بوش.
