الأحداث قليلة ومعروفة..بل تكاد تعرفها حتى قبل أن تقع، وتعرف أن هذه البنت المفعوصة التي تلعب الحجلة ستكبر بعد عدد من السنين وسيصفو لونها المبلد، ثم يخرطها خراط البنات وتتزوج.. بالتأكيد واحداً من هؤلاء الصبية الذين يرتدون الجلابيب الممزقة على اللحم ويستحمون في الترعة وينطون كالقرود المسلسلة من فوق الكوبري.
غير أنه أحياناً، تقع حوادث لا تكون معروفة ولا يمكن التبنؤ بوقوعها، مثل ذلك اليوم الذي ترددت فيه الصرخات في الغيط.. الصرخات الغامضة الغريبة التي ينشق عنها فضاء الريف الواسع أحياناً.
فتدوي بطريقة مفاجئة ومرعبة ومستغيثة دون أن تعرف مصدرها، ولكنك لابد تدرك منها أن شيئاً مهولاً قد وقع، ولابد حينئذ أن تفيق فتجد نفسك تجري لتنجد أو على الأقل لتعرف الخبر. غير أنه في تلك المرة لم يكن هناك ما يستدعي النجدة أو المساعدة، بل أكثر من هذا كان العائدون إلى العزبة يجدون حرجاً كثيراً حين تسألهم النساء عما حدث. ماذا يقولون؟ أيقولون إنهم وجدوا فاطمة في "الذرة" مع غريب؟.
