يَزخَرُ هذا الكتابُ بالكثيرِ من المعلوماتِ المهمَّةِ عن تاريخِ الطيران، ومراحلِ تطوُّرِه، بدايةً من اختراعِ الطائراتِ الوَرقيَّة، وانتهاءً بالطائراتِ الثقيلةِ في بداياتِ القرنِ العشرين. «الطيرانُ» فكرةٌ قديمةٌ تَرجعُ إلى آلافِ السنين، فمنذ أن وُجدَ الإنسانُ وهو يَحلمُ دومًا بالتحليقِ عاليًا في السماءِ مثلَ الطيور، وقد حاولَ مرارًا وتَكرارًا أن يفعلَ ذلك باستخدامِ الجَناحَينِ المُـرفرفَين، لكنْ لم يُكتَب لمُحاولاتِه النجاح، وخيرُ شاهدٍ على ذلك ما نُشاهِدُه من رسومٍ على جُدرانِ المعابدِ القديمة، وما نَسمعُه ونقرؤُه من حكاياتٍ وأساطيرَ تمَّ تناقُلُها عبرَ الأجيال، لعلَّ أشهرَها محاولةُ الطيرانِ التي نفَّذَها «عبَّاس بن فرناس» الأندلسي، ولكنْ مع مرورِ الزمنِ نجحَ الإنسانُ في أن يُحولَ حُلمَه وخيالَه إلى واقعٍ ملموس؛ حيث توصَّلَ إلى فكرةِ المُنطادِ وطوَّرَها في القرنِ الثامنَ عشَر، ومن ثَمَّ ظهرَت الطائرات، وأصبحَ هناك تسابقٌ دوليٌّ لتطويرِها وتحسينِها منذ بَدءِ الحربِ العالَميةِ الأُولى. كلُّ هذا وأكثرُ يُحدثُنا عنه «أحمد عبد السلام الكرداني» طيَّ هذا الكتاب، مناقِشًا أيضًا أهميةَ الطيرانِ بالنسبةِ إلى مِصر.
