في هذا الكتاب يطلَ علينا الأمير شكيب أرسلان شاعراً، مبدعاً يلاعب الكلمة والوزن على أنغام أثيرية، يلتقط من سعر المعاني كلمات هي أعمقها، وأبينها، وهو أمير البيان، أميرها المتوج عليها بعد أن قدم لنا الباكورة شعراً واسماً وهو من أوائل شعره، فبقي خالداً إلى يومنا هذا... وبما أن "الباكورة" الكتاب الشعري الأول لأمير البيان، سعت الأديبة الدكتورة "كلوديا شمعون أبي نادر" أن توليه رؤى الأمير وشفافيته، ورهافة حسَه وشعوره الفني الذي جعله في مصاف الشعراء الأوائل بشهادة عمالقة عصره في ذلك الزمن الأبي.
ومن "باكورة" اخترنا بضعة أبيات قالها متغزلاً بالعلم وهي من أوائل شعره: "أمعلمها بين العذيب وبارق، تغزلت من غزلاته بالحقائق/ فديتك ربعاً قد ترحل آله، بكل إمام، للمآثر سابق/ عفا وخلت منه المنازل بعدما، لقد كان زيناً للنهى والمناطق(...)".
ومسك الختام ما قاله مارون عبود في أمير البيان: "لو انصرف الأمير شكيب أرسلان إلى الشعر وحده، لكان هو أمير الشعراء وليس أحمد شوقي".
