في هذا الكتاب الهام يقوم المؤلف بدراسة البلاغة العربية وتتبعها لا من ناحية الموضوع ولا الزمن وإنما يحرص على الدرس البيئي للبلاغة لأن البيئة عاملها الأكيد في تشكيل ذوق الجماعة من ميراث وورثة، وحاضر اكتسبته ومواهب اختصت بها عبقريات مبدعيها وليس أمر هذا الدرس بالهين. وذلك لسبب وجيه أن جذور هذا الدرس منبثة في الروايات الأولى عن التفسير القرآني واستشفاف معانيه وذوق أساليبه كما أنها تتناثر في الروايات اللغوية عند الخليل بن أحمد وفي الكتاب لسيبويه ثم في العديد من دراسات اللغة والنحو، وغير ذلك.
والكتاب يتكون من ستة فصول، يتناول الأول بيئة العراق، والثاني أقصى المشرق، والثالث بيئة اليمن، والرابع بيئة الشام، والخامس بيئة مصر، والسادس والأخير: بيئة المغرب والأندلس. وفي كل فصل من هذه الفصول يعرض لنا المؤلف أبرز الأعلام التي نبغت البلد وأبرز مؤلفاتها وكيف أثرت البيئة عليها فيخرج القارئ بشبة مقارنة بين أعلام كل بلد ومؤلفاتهم وتذوقاتهم.
