هذه القصص لا تشكل أنشودة واحدة بل هي مجموعة "أناشيد وقصص عن الوطن والمنفى، دوّنها كتّاب ينتمون إلى جيل يمكن وصفه بجيل الوطن والمنفى في القصة العراقية، إذ بدأ أغلب هؤلاء خطواتهم الأدبية داخل الوطن ثم واصلوا مسيرتهم وسط أجواء أخرى مختلفة، في مدن غريبة... ويمكن تقسيم هذه القصص إلى قسمين قصص الوطن متمثلة بـ(رائحة المدافن، السجين المصاب بكآبة انفعالية، الموت بالزائدة الدودية والبيضاء البراقة السوداء) وقصص المنفى متمثلة بـ(رجل يدق الأجراس، أيّ منا لم يجد الآخر تداعيات البحيرة البيضاء، فنجان قهوة، الباقي من عبد الباقي، الطيور، ماذا تريد ساتو؟ ليلة أخيرة في سنة قديمة، ربعي مفاجئ، العنكبوت)، ولا بد من الإشارة إلى أن كل هذه القصص قد كتبت في الخارج، وأن القصص التي تناولت الوطن موضوعاً لها اعتمدت على خزين الذاكرة والذي لا زال طرياً لدى بعض القاصين حديثي الغربة.
