بهذه الخلفية، وهذا المخزون الهش من الوعي الثقافي والاجتماعي تخرج لمى للحياة والحرية وتحاول أن تمارسها بشكل مختلف، متأثرة بكتب نوال السعداوي عن حقوق المرأة من جهة ورومانسية أغاني عبد الحليم حافظ من جهة أخرى. بتلك الملامح تخرج لمى من مجتمعها الصغير إلى العالم الكبير، ذلك الخروج الذي فرضته عليها وعلى عائلتها ظروف الحرب والسياسة، لتبدأ رحلتها من منفى إلى آخر.
