رواية تعالج حالة نفس الإنسان المكبوت المقهور الذي يعاني الرعب وعدم التوازن النفسي، وتدور أحداثها في مدينة القائم في العراق عهد صدام حسين.
طبيب من القائم يعمل في ألمانيا في مهنته، متزوجاً من ألمانية، دائم التذكر والشوق لوالده الذي كان مدرساً تم فصله - لرفضه النفاق والكذب - من التدريس ليعمل في تجارة الماشية، فقير الحال وقد توفيت زوجته منذ زمن بعيد، صالح السيرة يخشى الله بصدق، يخجل من سيرة ابنه الثاني الذي يعمل في البناء وفي الوقت عينه مخبراً لأجهزة الأمن العراقية، سيء السمعة والسلوك، فقير الحال، يعاني الكثير من الحالات النفسية السيئة التي وصلت به لحد التضحية بأخيه الطبيب من خلال التآمر عليه مع أجهزة الأمن، ليستفرد برزقه وبرزق أبيه، الأمر الذي دفع الأخير للعودة الى المانيا بعد الزيارة القصيرة للعراق التي حصلت بسبب مرض أبيه، ناسياً وبشكل شبه تام وطنه والوطن العربي كله، متقبلاً احتلال أمريكا للعراق وكأنها تحتل بلداً لم يسمع به.
