في روايتها "الملهمات" انطلقت "فاتحة مرشيد" من فكرتين مختلفتين. الأولى هي الحديث مع شخص في غيبوبة والسؤال الذي لا زال يؤرق الطب: هل يسمع أم لا؟ والفكرة الثانية هي علاقة الكتابة بالحب ومفهوم الإلهام. تتطرق هذه الرواية إلى مواضيع عامة: الحب بصفة خاصة، الحب في علاقته بالإبداع، الوفاء، الخيانة، الصداقة ... الخ طرحتها الكاتبة في بعدها الإنساني وهي تخص المرأة والرجل على حد سواء، بعيداً عن الـ "كليشيهات" المداولة والأحكام الأخلاقية.
ترتكز الرواية على شخصية كاتب يبوح بأسرار الكتابة والحب في آخر كتاب يهديه إلى قرائه، من هنا تتردد في الرواية أسماء مشاهير كتاب عالميين أمثال "بول إلوار"، "ونستون تشرشل" ، "أوسكار وايلد" ، "جبران خليل جبران" وآخرون. كما تحيل الرواية على أعمال أدبية وفكرية عالمية، من خلال الإشارة إلى عناوينها، وهذا يعني تأثيث لفضاءات فكرية أرادت الكاتبة إشراك القارىء فيها من خلال العمل.
وهكذا نجحت الكاتبة في لعبة الحكي عبر حكايتين متضافرتين ومتقاطعتي المصائر. مدار الأولى: شخصية نسائية تنتقم لسنوات صمتها بالحديث إلى زوجها الواقع تحت وطأة غيبوبة كلينيكية، وهي تروي له أحداث قصة كانا في أحد الأزمان بطلين لها، دون أن تعلم إن كان باستطاعته أن يسمع أم لا. ومدار الثانية: كاتب يكشف أسرار منابع الإلهام لديه، وعلاقة الحب بالإبداع، عبر بورتريهات لنساء أوقدن جمر الكتابة بدواخله.
