مسرحية عذبه فيها يوظف ونوس أفكاراً قديمة مادتها التراث القديم، ضاماً إياها بشكل حكاية شعبية مادتها مستقاة من إحدى حكايات ألف ليلة وليلة وفيها يروي بلباقة فنية كبيرة قصة ملك عبث برعيته وبأحوالهم، مقرراً في إحدى الليالي اختيار احد الأفراد وهو تاجر سابق خانه الدهر، وركبته الديون، وتآمر عليه شهبندر التجار، والقاضي والنظام نفسه، فتمنى أن يصبح سلطان البلاد ليشدد قبضته، ولو ليومين على العباد، وهنا تبدأ المسرحية حين ينصب التاجر سلطاناً على أبناء البلاد... في "الملك هو الملك" درس سياسي واضح، وهو أن تغيير الأفراد لا يغير الأنظمة، وإنما على الأنظمة أن تتغير من قواعدها، حتى تتصبح الجسوم، وتلمع الوجوه بالبشر كما كان الناس في سابق الزمان، فالملك مهما تغير يبقى هو الملك يحكمه وجبروته وظلمه.
