كيف يستطيع الإنسان المتدين، أن يظل أطول وقت ممكن في كون مقدس؟ كيف يتمثل تجربته الكلية في الحياة، بالقياس إلى تجربة الإنسان المحروم من الشعور الديني، الإنسان الذي يحيا، أو يرغب في أن يحيا في عالم نزعت فيه قدسيته؟...
إن العالم الدنيوي برمته، الكون الذي نزعت عنه القدسية نزعاً كلياً، هو إكتشاف حديث للعقل البشري، وليس من المفروض علينا أن نُظْهِر، وفقاً لأي صيرورات تاريخية، وبناء علي أي تغيرات في السلوك الروحي، نزعَ الإنسان الحديث القدسية عن عالمه، وإضطلاعه بوجود دنيوي.
يكفي أن نستخلص هنا فقط، أن نزع القدسية يميز التجربة الكلية الإنسان المجتمعات الحديثة غير المتدين، ونتيجة لذلك، فهذا الأخير يشعر بصعوبة تزداد كبراً، في إستعادة الأبعاد الأساسية لإنسان المجتمعات القديمة المتدين.
