والكتاب يصحح في كل مدرسة كثيراً من الأفكار الشائعة، فليس أبو الأسود الدؤلى البصري وتلاميذه هم السابقين إلى وضع قواعد النحو العربي، والخليل -لاسيبويه- هو الذي أعطى النحو صيغته النهائية، والكوفة -لا البصرة- هي التي بدأت الحملة على بعض القراء القراءات، وأبو على الفارسي وابن جنى بغداديان لا بصريان. والمدرستان الأندلسية والمصرية لم تعيشا على التقليد وإنما عاشتا على الاجتهاد والنفوذ بمقاييس سداد إلى كثيرة من خفيات النحو وتصاريفه.
وفي كل جانب من الكتاب يتضح العرب الدقيق والتحليل العميق لأعلام النحاة النابهين وما بذلوا من جهود نحوية خصبة كان لها أبعد الأثر فلي أن تحتفظ العربية -على مر التاريخ- بشخصيتها الخالدة.
