حائز على إجازة في تاريخ الفنّ من جامعة غرناطة.
صدرت أولى رواياته عام 1986، وبدأت شهرته العالمية مع روايته الثانية 'الشتاء في ليشبونة' الّتي تُرجمت إلى عدّة لغات.
انتُخب عام 1995 عضوًا في الأكاديمية الملكية الإسبانية.
صدر له أكثر من 30 كتابًا، منها 20 رواية.
يعيش متنقلًا بين مدريد ونيويورك، وهو متأهّل من الكاتبة إلفيرا ليندو.

وصف رواية الشتاء في ليشبونة تأليف (أنطونيو مونيوز مولينا)
في سان سيباستيان سمعت لوكريثيا سانتياغو بيرالبو يعزف على البيانو، ولم يعد شيء موجوداً إلاّ موسيقاه، حملت بليشبونة وذهبت مرغمة إلى برلين، ثلاث سنوات انتظرها بيرالبو، وهو يعيش لتلقّي الرسائل وإرسالها، قبل أن تعود من جنيف فيضيّعها مجدّداً في الطريق إلى ليشبونة. قصّة حبّ لا تنتهي عند آخر فرصة ضائعة في مدريد، قصّة امرأة تبحث عن ذاتها في لوحة مسروقة لسيزان، قصّة واقع فكّكه الشغف على إيقاع موسيقى الجاز، في شبه عتمة الأيّام الماطرة والأندية الليلية، إنّها قصة هروب مستمرّ، ولكن “ما جدوى الهروب من المدن إن كانت ستلاحقك إلى آخر العالم”؟. ليست المدن بل القصّة هي الّتي ستلاحق القارئ، إلى حدّ تكذيب إعتقاد الراوي بأنّه غير موجود لأن لا أحد يفكر فيه: فبيرالبو يغيب عنه بعد بوح متقطّع، ولوكريثيا لا توجّه نظرها إليه بتاتاً، ولكنّه سيظلّ في حيّز الوجود لأنّ روايته هذه سوف تلازم تفكير قارئها حتّى بعد أن يضع الكتاب جانباً. نال “أنطونيو مونيوز مولينا” الجائزة الوطنية للأدب وجائزة النقّاد في إسبانيا عن روايته “الشتاء في ليشبونة” عند صدورها عام 1987.
