فالكونت ليو تولستوي من عمالقة الروائيين الروس ومن أعمدة الأدب الروسي في القرن التاسع عشر والبعض يعدونه من أعظم الروائيين على الأطلاق.يعد تولستوي من أشهر الكتاب في العالم في مجال الأدب، تناول في كتاباته الأدبية مواضيع أخلاقية ودينية واجتماعية. و كان مفكراً عميق التفكير.
كان ليو روائي ومصلح اجتماعي وداعية سلام ومفكر أخلاقي وعضو مؤثر في عائلة تولستوي. أشهر أعماله روايتي الحرب والسلم.
