مسرحية " الجبان" للكاتب المسرحى " هنرى رينيه لونورمان" تجرى أحداثها فى مصحة استشفاء تقع على مكان مرتفع فى سويسرا الشرق ثم فى مونترو؛ يقدم فيها نماذج مختلفة من المرضى من جنسيات وديانات ومعتقدات متعددة، أما "الجبان" - محور المسرحيةـ فقد كان ضحية لجبنه؛ إذ كان يتظاهر بأنه مريض بالسل لكى يهرب من الجندية، ودخل هذه المصحة، وتحت تأثير الخوف والهلع اللذين يستوليان عليه، تورط رغمًا عنه فى أعمال الجاسوسية، ولكنه فشل وانتهى الأمر بتصفيته جسديًّا.
