رواية متخيلة, لم تحدد الجغرافيا, أو الزمن الذي تدور فيه الاحداث, الرواية تتحدث عن بلد يعيش سكانها في ظل حكم توليتاري, وبعد حروب عديدة عاشها سكان البلاد, فقد خلالها الكثير الناس فيها آباءهم وأقاربهم والحرب الأخير المدمرة حيث اجتاحتها جيوش الأعداء. سوف يسقط الحكم الديكتاتوري, ويبدأ الناس يتطلعون لقيام حكومة ديموقراطية, ودستور يصون حقوق الجميع, و....., إلا أن الحرب الأهلية سوف تكون هي البديل في مجتمع ممزق طائفياً وإثنياً.
تلك الأحداث يسردها الشخصية الرئيسية في الرواية (أحمد) بضمير المتكلم, هذا الأخير الذي كان يعيش في قريته الوادعة, حياة أقرب للفقر حيث ورث عن أبيه قطة أرض يزرعها, لسوء طالعه لم تكن تلك الأرض لتطرح إلا القليل, لكن وفي الموسم الذي بدأت تزدهر فيه زراعته, سوف يكون الاجتياح والحرب و..... أحداث كثيرة لا يمكنني الحديث عنها جميعاً, تساؤلات كثيرة سوف يطرحها ويجيب على معظمها, حول الفقر والغنى والطمع وحب المال, وفقدان الأحبة, والحروب العبثية و.... غير أن صاحبنا هذا, سوف يعايش الاجتياح والحرب الأهلية, ويحبس ويمر الموت من جانبه مرات عدة, وستنتهي الحروب وينجو, إلا أن....
