Book Description
يعيد الباحث قراءة تاريخ التنوخيون، أجداد الموحدين الدروز، في المنطقتين الوسطى والجنوبية في جبل لبنان المعروفة ب"الأشواف".
يتحدث في الفصل الأول عن أصل التنوخيين وقدومهم إلى الجبال الغربية من بلاد الشام، واستقرارهم المكثف في الأشواف المطلة على مدينتي بيروت وصيدا.
وتناول في الفصل الثاني دور التنوخيين في الدفاع عن الثغور في وجه هجمات الروم البيزنطيين، ومساهمتهم في تركيز دعائم الحكم الفاطمي في بلاد الشام، واعتناقهم الدعوة التوحيدية.
وتناول في الفصل الثالث دور التنوخيين خلال قدوم حملات الغزو الأوروبي واحتلالهم للمشرق الإسلامي وتشدد التنوخيين في مناهضتهم للفرنجة، وقدرتهم على المحافظة على المنطقة الجبلية من إمارتهم بعيد سقوط السواحل بيد الفرنجة، بعيدة عن خطر الفرنجة والتي عرفت بـ"جبل الغرب"، وارتباط التنوخيين بالدول التي تعاقبت على حكم دمشق (الأتابكية والزنكية والأيوبية).
وتناول في الفصل الرابع دور التنوخيين السياسي والعسكري في العصر المملوكي، حيث تمكنوا من الاحتفاظ باقطاعاتهم الوراثية في مناطقهم بالرغم من تعارض ذلك مع مفهوم الإقطاع المملوكي، وشكلت إمارة آل بحتر التنوخية النواة الأولى لإمارة إقطاعية مركزية.
أما الفصل الخامس فكان محاولة لإعطاء صورة عن بعض مظاهر الحياة الاقتصادية والعمرانية والفكرية في الإمارة التنوخية.
والفصل السادس والخير فكان تتبعاً لدور التنوخيين في العهد العثماني.
