يتناول الكتاب العلاقة المعقّدة بين التصوف اليهودي والسلطة الدينية والسياسية، وكيف وُظّفت الكابالا أحيانًا كمعرفة سرّية وأحيانًا كوسيلة نفوذ. كما يقدّم مقارنة مع التصوف الإسلامي، خاصة في مجالات الفناء، التجلي، والحب الإلهي، دون إغفال الفوارق العقدية والمنهجية.
