تدور أحداث رواية "الباحث عن الذهب" حول أسرة صغيرة، متكونة من أب وأم وإبن وإبنة، فتتبلور بداية هذه الأحداث بميزة كلاسيكية اتسمت بها الرواية الأوروبية حيث يجد الإبن مخطوطة أو بالأحرى خريطة تؤكد وجود كنز في البلاد البعيدة، وعليه أن يخوض غمار التحري عنه وأن يركب البحر من أجل الوصول إليه، إذ سيقدم على الرحيل بعد وفاة والده وطردهم من قبيل عمهم، تاركا بذلك القرار أمه طريحة الفراش تصارع المرض ، وأخته للفراغ والحيرة والقلق والتفكير في الإلتحاق بالدير، وهو ما فعلته بعد ذلك. تطول رحلة الفتى الذي صادف المغامرات البحرية وأهوال الحرب العالمية التي انخرط بسببها كمتطوع في صفوف الجيش الفرنسي وكاد أن يلقى حتفه. وصل بالفعل إلى مكان الكنز الذي حددته الخريطة، لكنه وجد كنزا لا الذي كان يبحث عنه بإرادته، هذا الكنز الذي صادفه الفتى هو لقائه بفتاة غجرية من لابسات الخيش تيم بها وأحبها وأحبته... أحداث كثيرة ومشوقة نترك فيها لكم حيزا للقراءة واستكشافها.
