فرانسيس هودجسون بيرنت روائية وكاتبة قصص أطفال. نالت سمعة طيبة في ثلاثة من أشهر كتب الأطفال وهي "الأميرة الصغيرة" "والحديقة السرية". ولدت فرانسيس هودجسون بيرنت في مدينة مانشستر في تشرين الثاني (نوفمبر) 1849. وهي واحدة من خمسة أولاد لصاحب مصنع ثري. وبعد وفاة والدها مرت العائلة بأوقات عصبية، وفي العام 1865 هاجرت إلى أميركا. ومع ذلك فإن فرانسيس لم تنس حياتها في مانشستر، ولا قصتها الأولى "حبيبة لوديس" 1871 التي تتحدث عن حياة العمال في المدينة. وهي في قصتها هذه تحكي قصتها للقارئ عن طريق تصويرها للمعاناة التي عاشتها الأميرة الصغيرة بعد وفاة والدها. وهذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا ضم بطبعته هذه نص قصة الأميرة الصغيرة باللغة الإنكليزية وما يقابلها من ترجمة بالعربية، مع ملحق ضم مجموعة من الأسئلة التي تساعد الطفل الناشئ على استيعاب المعلومات وتحدث فيه ملكة التفكير والبحث والاستنتاج.
