بدأ باحثاً عن وطن، وانتهى به المطاف باحثاً عن الحب، تلك هي حال جان بوسمانس بطل رواية (الأفق) للكاتب الفرنسي باتريك موديانو، الذي ما أن وجد ذلك الحب أو شبه له أجهض، بفعل عوامل الزمن والحروب ومطاردة السلطات، ولكنه لم ييأس بل حمل حبّه في داخله على مرّ السنين وها هوم اليوم يبدأ بالبحث عنه.
كان ذلك بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية، البطلان في العشرينات من العمر يعربان عن ضياعهما في بداية الرواية وسط العاصمة باريس في مرحلة قلقة وماضية أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية، جانس بوسمانس ومارغريت لوكوز يلتقيان وسط حشد في إحدى ساحات العاصمة الفرنسية وهما يعيشان القلق والخوف من مطاردات معينة، كما كانا يمتلكان أحلاماً كبيرة لا يمكن أن تتحقق وسط مخاوف المرحلة . يقعان في الحب من لحظة لقائهما الاول، وفي نفس الوقت كانا يدركان أن حبهما سيكون مستحيلاً، هذا الحب الكبير والهائل ينقطع بطريقة فجائية في ظروف قاسية، لكنه يستمر داخل كل واحد منهما، وبعد أربعين عاماً وحيث لم يعد جان بوسمانس يقوى على فراق مارغريت، يذهب للبحث عنها في مسقط رأسها علَّها عادت الى هناك، ولتبدأ حياة أخرى وفصول جديدة. وبعد، (الأفق) رواية عن الحب الذي لا يموت، تستحق القراءة، والشرب منها حتى الارتواء. والجديرذكره أن الرواية قد حصلت على جاءزة نوبل للأداب للعام 2014.
