الألم ...
يعدُّ الألمُ لغزاً محيراً، إذ يختلفُ عن الحواسِ الخمسةِ (البصر ، السمع ، اللمس ، الذوق , الشم) لأنه شعور تمييزي و دافع سلوكي.
وهو أولى الخبراتِ المأساويةِ التي يكتسبها الفردُ منذ بداياتِ حياتهِ, ويسعى جاهداً للتوصلِ إلى طريقةٍ لاجتنابهِ أو التخلصِ منه.
والألمُ أحساسٌ مضنٍ، وهو نظام تحذيري يقومُ بالتنبيه عندما يحدثُ تلفٌ معين في أنسجةِ الجسمِ، ويكونُ كذلكَ دافعاً للكثيرِ من السلوكياتِ.
ومن تصنيفاته الألم النفسي والجسمي، والإثنان معاً يُكَّوِنانِ أقوى الدوافعِ السلوكيةِ، وقد جعلهما فرويد مبدأينِ مهمين في نظريته كالغرائزِ، فركز على مبدأ الألمِ وتوأَمَهُ مع مبدأ اللذة.
