ويتجسَّد محور الرواية في الشعور بالانفصال النسبي عن الذات وعن المجتمع، والانسحاب شبه التام عن الحياة الاجتماعية؛ من الإحساس بالعجز والرفض والعزلة، وعدم الانتماء، والقلق والشعور بالرفض، والشعور بافتقاد وضياع الهويَّة النفسيَّة والاجتماعيَّة.
