وتسرد الكاتبة في هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الأفكار والتجارب الثرية في محاولة للإجابة عن هذا السؤال: ( السعادة التي نحاول أن نحصل عليها تلك التي تأتي على غفلة منا حين نتوقف عن ملاحقة الأشياء والتمسك عنوة بها، فلو أرخينا أيدينا قليلا لعرفنا القيمة الحقيقية لكل الأشياء التي تحيط بنا ولتأكدنا بأنه ليس كل ما نتمسك به يستحق كل ذلك الجهد الذي نبذله من أجله، وقد لا نشعر بالسعادة لإننا نتمسك بالأشياء التي تؤذينا وتبتر أصابعنا ) .
وتضيف المؤلفة: لأنني أريد أن تشعروا بالسعادة أطلب منكم التأمل في الحياة، أن تشرق شمس قلوبكم وأن تعتنوا بالأشياء الجميلة التي تحيط بكم، فسلاما على الذين يستيقظون صباحا متوكلين على الله مستبشرين بالفرح والخير هادئين البال يشربون قهوتهم على مهل، يخبرون أنفسهم بأن القادم أجمل، ويرمون ثقل أيامهم على الله فرحين بما آتاهم من فضله، يتأملون بديع صنع الله وجمال ابداعه في الكون ليتأكدوا أنهم مخلوقات ضعيفة تدعوه وتخشاه وتحبه وتناجيه في عتمة الليل ومصاعب الحياة.
