خرج عصفور فاردًا جناحيه ناظرا
إلى إشراقة الشمس قادرا
على تنفس الفرح والسرور
وملأ عينيه من ألوان الحبور
وخفق بجناحيه وضرب الهواء
وحلق عاليا في السماء
فأشعل الحقد ناره في عيون الغراب
وتطاير شرر مقته للسحاب
كيف يغدو هذا العصفور جميلا
لماذا يحلق في السماء سعيدا
وتحت الشجرة ثعلب ماكر
قال: ما أحلاه فطورا في الصباح الباكر
ووقف ولد فوق سطح بيته
متربصا متحفزا بقوسه
وأطلق سهمه، أصاب وديعا
فسقط على الأرض صريعا
مكسور الجناح مذعورا
وخلفه الغراب مسحورا
ينتف ريشه بسرور
لا يلتفت إلى أنينه المبتور
أقبل الغلام هاتفا يعدو
هيا دع لعبتي واغدُ
وثب الماكر بينهما ، هتف بحزم قاطع
احذروا واتقوا شر الجائع
إذا رأى لحما ماتع
فما هو عنه بقانع
فاختلفوا من يأخذ المسكين
ثم اتفقوا أن يحضروا السكين
