بمناسبة ذكرى مرور 1600 عام على وفاة القديس مارون (410- 2010)، شفيع الموارنة، مركز "فينيكس للدراسات اللبنانية" إعادة نشر مقالتين للدكتور "شارل مالك"، يستفيض فيهما حول دور الموارنة في لبنان والعالم.
صحيح أنّ وضع الموارنة السياسيّ والثقافيّ والإجتماعيّ الحاضر، ليس كما كان في عامي 1974 و 1980 عندما نشرت هاتان المقالتان- الرسالتان، لكن دور الموارنة الثقافيّ وموقعهم الحضاريّ لم ينتفيا أكان في لبنان أو في محيطه الشرق الأوسطي، إنهم كانوا ولا يزالون دعاة رسالة حضارية مشرقيّة قوامها الإنفتاح والإبداع والديمقراطيّة، إنهم كانوا ولا يزالون أساس لبنان الكيان والهويّة والميثاق، إنهم كانوا ولا يزالون دعاة بل ركائز لبنان الرسالة كما سمّاه قداسة البابا يوحنا بولس الثاني.
إنطلاقاً من فكر شارل مالك ورؤياه، ومن تاريخنا وحاضرنا ومستقبلنا المنظور، يمكننا القول إن لا موارنة من دون لبنان ولا لبنان من دون موارنة.
وفي كثير من مفارق التاريخ، إضطُّهِد الموارنة، هُمّشوا، فتموضعوا وخبا وهجهم، ولكنهم كانوا كل مرة على موعد مع الأمل والحريّة والقداسة، فقادَتهْم صلواتُهم ومعاوِلُهم وحكمةُ كبارهم إلى النهوض فالإنتشار مجدداً... يفتحون قلوبهم، يمدّون أيديهم ولا يخشون...
من هنا أُعطي الموارنة كثيراً وما يُنتظر منهم كثيراً أيضاً... علّنا نأخذ من عبر الماضي لنكون على "مستوى لحظة التاريخ الحاسمة"، كما يقول "شارل مالك"...
